DESCRIPTION: French wall clock in a very unusual and appealing style, 8 day, time and strike, pendule a Paris movement, recoil escapement and rack striking on a bell, silvered Roman numeral dial with pierced gilt center with bellflower and anthemion ornament, the gilt bezel with roses and rose leaves, case back with fabric covered pierced fret, the top with modified acanthus and anthemion, supported by a winged female figure holding palm leaves, standing on a globe set on foliate elements with bellflower drop, gilding with bright and matte contrasting finishes, c1890
CONDITION: Movement fairly clean, functional time and strike trains, regulator missing, hand washer and taper pin missing, dial has darkened over time, with some scratching and loss to painted numerals, gilt center very good, hands with surface rust, one spring catch on back cover replaced, modeling, casting, matting and gilding skillfully executed, with contrasting bright and matte areas, gilding a bit dirty, with minor cleaning loss on the womans face and chest and stomach, one minor spot of verdigris on left arm, Ht 38" A large, heavy, and very impressive clock
